"Blinkx" is the new face of easing boredom. If watching people crash cars, fail miserably at skateboard tricks and "sing" karaoke makes you feel better about yourself, this is the perfect site for you. This may sound dangerously like "YouTube", but Blinkx takes it a step further, with numerous added features. Another great thing about the site is that the videos are not limited to personal home videos. You can catch the news, highlights of the game, or clips of your favorite television shows on the site.
The first thing you will notice when you use Blinkx is the number of results you get with a single search. Blinkx has a very large collection of videos. The site advertises that it hosts upwards of 7 million hours of video. The site works by scouring millions of websites for their videos; providing users with an easy-access database. Also, when you search a subject, the site will automatically make a playlist of the results and have them play back to back. The site is also innovative in that when the thumbnails of the search results are displayed they are not static pictures but rather they display a short clip of the video. Finally, my favorite feature of Blinkx is that there is virtually no loading time. The site will take a video and split it into manageable parts (usually 20 second increments) and download the next increment as the current one is playing.
Although Blinkx is still in its "beta" stages, the website is definitely the most promising new site I have seen this year. I find myself watching the most random videos, and thoroughly enjoying myself. Another wonderful thing about the site is that clips of SNL and other television shows are still available. While, on Youtube and similar sites this material has been removed. I realize that this is probably because the television companies pressed legal action, which I find completely ridiculous. Clips of television shows, can serve as free advertising for the shows. I watch "The Office" every week because of the one clip of the show I saw in 2005. Without those clips I would never have known about the show. So with Blinkx I can discover new shows, kill time, and procrastinate on the things I should be doing. Blinkx is slowly emerging as a major website. So if you haven't yet you should check out Blinkx.com.

As a devotee of YouTube, I'm surprised I hadn't heard of this site yet.
Your very first few sentences make me smile. Fantastic intro, really caught my attention. :-)

This is really cool. Ive known of youtube, and have found some of the funniest videos on there, but I really look forward to checking this one out. It sounds pretty interesting. I also agree with the fact that these videos provide free advertising for the shows on tv right now. Just one clip can snag tons of viewers. Thanks!

This is very interesting. It excites me to know that there is something as great as youtube but more credible and even better. You did a great job persuading people to be interested in your site, and from what I see from the previous comments, it seems that this article was very successful. Great Job.

Sounds like this website will be giving google and YouTube a run for their money! The site sounds very promising. I am amazed that they have such a large database. Perhaps since the website is in the beta stages that is why it still has the tv clips and such on it. As it gains popularity it might run into the same issues as YouTube did. But the technology certainly is exciting!
after reading your article that website seems like the thing for me. i am always wasting time on the internet just looking for funny videos and things like that. in your article you said that it was much much more than youtube so there is more to do than just watch other peoples home movies which is a plus.
You're in Easy Mode. If you prefer, you can use XHTML Mode instead. |
